Generalization: A Real-World Example

You can clearly see that the driver in the image is not using a phone while driving, right? But for an AI model used by the Dutch police, the driver is using a phone. The Dutch police use cameras combined with image recognition systems to detect whether a person is using a mobile phone while driving. The result? The driver was fined €380 for allegedly using a mobile phone while driving.

This is a classic example of a “False Positive”: The AI model triggered an alert when it should not have.
